GZ, Our boat won an IOC race some years back by using the evening winds coming down off the coastal plane. Many others headed out to sea to catch a front coming through. We spent the whole 3 days with a spinnaker up night and day catching light winds, while the others were watching dry lightening and a stuck in the doldrums. We crossed the finish line hours before anyone else. It was a conservative choice of discipline and patience. They finally road the big winds in full of zip.....but way to late. It was not luck, but knowledge and discipline. Chip
