Yes it could be a pretty good move - if executed well.

Of course our favorite bunch of buffoons at 1 AMD place have a record of ineptness that is tough to match.

They should have their own chipsets made at UMC and cut out the chipset guys margin. Then they should have the MB's built by a MB guy such as OSE or one of the many chinese/taiwan board guys. And have these kitted with K6-2s and ready to roll.

If they wait for some-one to carry the ball - well good luck.

If they had done their own MB's they wouldn't have been destroyed by Intel in the low end celeron+mb game. In addition they are now slashing Athlon pricing by about $100 to ensure that the MB+CPU costs is similar to PIII's.

Jerry can spend a couple of billion on fabs and test equipment but he cant seem to figure out the business end of PC's.

The best he can do is simply follow Intels business model and sub the MB's and chipsets out and thereby increase CPU margins. But i suspect he is incapable of doing this.
