To get a better picture of the OSX wave action I decided to use HAL as a proxy for the OSX. They seem to track very closely since the OSX began.

Looking at a monthly chart of HAL it is clear that a primary wave I ended at the 43.22 high of late '81 and was corrected by primary wave II which took HAL down to 8.69 by mid '86. I think we are now in primary wave III up. 1 of III topped in late '90, 2 of III bottomed in early '92 and 3 of III peaked in late '97. HAL is now in wave 4 down of III.

The similarity of this correction to that of '81-'86 gives some idea of how the shape of this correction might play out. The earlier correction was a 3 wave ABC series, with an initial 73% decline in wA, a 40% retrace in wB and then an additional 63% decline in wC over a period of 5.5 years. Since this is a lower degree wave it should not take as long. The present correction started with a 60% drop in wave A to $25 in Oct. '98, then a 70% retrace with wave B up to 51.75 in Aug. '99.

HAL is now in wave C down, which would be the final drop in this correction. This C wave down should subdivide into 5 wavelets. It looks like we are in the large 3rd wavelet down and it should experience a bounce now into the gap from last week. The bounce could take a while but this wavelet 3 should end below recent lows of 32.31. From that low wavelet 4 up should again try to close last week's gap. Then wavelet 5 down will end C and complete the 4th wave from late '97.

Using trendlines called Andrew's pitchfork I calculate that HAL's wave C should end in early April at around $23. This would make wave C a 55% drop. Interestingly, the wave C drop of the '81-'86 correction was 45% of the wave A drop. If the $23 target is met that would make this wave C 55% of this wave A, fairly close to the '80's ratio.

If these targets are met, at that point a primary wave 5 up should begin and buying large would be in order.

At this point in the OSX it looks like Slider's trading style of taking any and all profits and cutting any and all losses ASAP would be very wise.

Regards
