ATI Technologies (ATYT) supplies video cards:

ATI Technologies is all the rage. The leading maker of graphics accelerator chips sells
3-D RAGE integrated graphics accelerator chips that incorporate 3-D and 2-D graphics
and video acceleration. ATI makes products for PC (XPERT@Work, XPERT@Play) and
Macintosh (XCLAIM, NEXUS) platforms. The ImpacTV2 chip allows users to connect a
PC to a TV for games or presentations. Users can also view TV signals through a PC,
and vice-versa, with the All-in-Wonder accelerator board. In an effort to move away from
complete outsourcing of its chip production, ATI has begun a customer-owned tooling
initiative to alleviate its dependence on full-service fab plants. Customers include Apple,
Dell, Gateway, and Sun Microsystems.

Genesis Microchip (GNSS) supplies chips in the flat panel displays

Genesis Microchip designs, develops and markets sophisticated, cost-effective digital
video/graphic image-manipulation integrated circuit (IC) solutions. The company's
ImEngine series of video/graphic-processing ICs represent a breakthrough in full-motion,
high-quality video/graphic scaling (shrink and zoom) and de-interlacing technologies. The
company initially developed its IC solutions for specialized high-end digital video/graphic
processing markets - applications such as medical imaging, video editing and television
broadcasting. Genesis is a principal supplier to leaders such as In Focus Systems,Inc.,
CTX Opto Electronics Corp., Texas Instruments and Panasonic.

It is very easy for vendors to switch video cards in PC's. Not so easy to tear the guts out of a flat panel display. <grin>.

Hi Jack, Re: ATYT

From one layman to another. You may have something with this one, but I don't have time to do the intense DD that I do normally. But I will throw out a few observations that you probably are already aware of.

Looks like the next earnings release will come out around 10/21. Since the price has been falling recently, the true story may unfold at that point and time.

This may be the highest "Short Ratio" I have ever seen. Probably those shrewd Canadians. <grin>

Shares Short
as of Sep 8, 1999 8.16M. Short Ratio 36.44

Short Interest Shares Company 8,163,321 Industry 1,367,495 S&P 500 2,740,914
Short Interest Ratio Company 41.0 Industry 4.5 S&P 500 5.5

There are a lot of shares out there.
Shares Outstanding 203.0M. Float 168.4M

No debt & lots of cash.
Current Ratio (mrq) 2.34. Long-Term Debt/Equity (mrq) 0. Total Cash (mrq) $100.0M

There appears to be a lack of Investor Confidence because of some comments made by Dell on ATYT not meeting production deadlines and loosing some design wins with Dell & Compaq.

The ATI sell-off may also have been sparked by comments by Dell Chief Executive Michael Dell in Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper on Saturday that suggested ATI had trouble meeting production deadlines.
ATI "had some problems in meeting our schedules...and we found other suppliers that could better meet (these) schedules," Dell is quoted as saying. "We're actually a big customer of ATI and continue to be."

Lots of Big name customers as you can see from all the press releases.

Check out the competitors mentioned.
California-based 3Dfx Interactive Inc. (NASDAQ: TDFX)
California-based NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA)

There are no available Whisper numbers?

What is fair value?

Please note that when I do my best DD it takes me about 24 hours. I do it on word and it just won't post on SI. If you or anyone else would like copies then PM me your email address. Keep in mind that just because I perform the DD doesn't mean I buy it. Probably have done about a dozen this year and bought 4 or 5. When I am finished with one, I will email people and ask them if they what a copy or not. The last one I probably asked 15 folks and only one requested a copy. That should give you an idea of what people think of my work. :o(

RE: What am I missing? The only way we can answer that is to play devil's advocate with one another on the research we dig up. IMHO Some are much better at it than others, that's what keeps us Layman in the game.

FWIW
Keith

PS - be nice if we could get our hands on a couple of the big name broker reports.
