>I like meat, too, but I also like fancy restaurants where a meal is a work of art.< Well then next time you are in NYC, try Le Cirque. Some say it is to TOTG what the Upper East Side is to Central Park West (grin). It has kind of an odd, elegant circus motif. It is a bit quieter than TOTG. Pricing is about the same as the TOTG or the Inn (or around about there). The host is very nice, wine list is exhaustive and the food (french) is quite good. Some folk have complained about the staff, but I have only had good experiences there. I say if ever you attend a restaurant and after having explained your desires and tipped the Maitre'd the experience is not going well, then it is your responsibility to discreetly but brutally slap someone around to make it work. Surely it ruins the thing for you, but it rescues it for your guests. I have only had to do this sort of thing at French restaurants, but unfortunately you generally have to slap around the French in order to have them fall in line. The Inn, while not as regal as some of the finer European places, seriously pampers you without your having to ask, and this is why I think it is amongst the top in the country -- maybe even in the world. The only thing I might say against the Inn is that you sometimes get the feeling the service is overpackaged - as if the things the staff does are part of a Spielbergian system of some sort that is extended to everyone. Otherwise, it is really good. There are several other nice places in NYC that I like (or at least used to like). But I think I've told you one of my favourite NYC haunts is a little Chinese dive on the Upper East Side on York Ave. Its cheap, casual, the food is good and the owner there is a great guy. I also like several of the greasy diners. One place down in the Lower East Side (Soho) serves up some very good Greek dishes. There is also a vegetarian place my wife and I used to always visit called Dojo's. I don't know how it is now, but it was cheap and the stuff was good. We used to like its stuff quite a lot. My wife is not exactly a vegetarian, but she may as well be. She eats like a lady bug.
