With respect to the Sex Pistols, they really were ground-breaking. And, although I don't care for rap, Public Enemy was ground-breaking, too. As for the Beastie Boys, that does give me pause. They're certainly iconoclastic, and their music can be fresh, and novel, but they aren't on a par with the others. I'd have to think about who I'd pick as the most ground-breaking artist of the 1990's, but it's not necessarily the one I like the best, y'know?

Amazon should stick with what they know. I assume that list is based on sales? If so, it seems a reflection of what people are buying on line, not who the most important artists are. I like the picks of Armstrong, Ellington, and Parker, though. And certainly Caruso...

hmmmm

1930's, I think should have been Robert Johnson

they could have moved Ellington to another decade, he spanned so many

actually one per decade doesn't work
