Well, I don't listen to too much popular music, however, I believe the ones that stand the test of time have to do so musically, kind of like artists work in the end either holds up or it doesn't... so, I would say the sex pistols don't last. But who knows. I guess the thing that makes me pause is you have Duke Ellington listed for one decade vs. Public Enemy... no comparison... and then of course the beatles take up the 60s but imo the Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin will be remembered long after the Beatie Boys...?

That would be a tough job picking the artists of the decade though. They didn't pick "cat on a hot tin roof" as one of the best videos of the 50s either...

Re. "ground breaking," what exactly the hell does that mean? Undertakers break ground and I would say six feet would be about right for these "artists." Maybe a few extra feet so we could shovel in the collected works. Not in any way meant as flame of CB's musical tastes.

Did the Sex Pistols have more merit or influence than Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, Carole King, Donna Summer, John Denver, Otis Redding, Barry White or the friggin' Bee Gees? Man!

Re. the 80's pick.....no wonder the Father, Son and Holy Ghost took the last train for the coast. E! Where are you? You want to debunk a myth.....Go Girl! If the honoree's "work" qualifies as "music," all I can say is, the search for the lowest common denominator IS OVER!

The 90s? Hey, there's still a couple of months..... maybe we'll get lucky.
