Me too I thought it was over kill before I went, but in hindsight, getting a few hundred people together who only knew each other from the internet posed a serious challenge and since A@P has been in the center of many a controversy, I think his concerns were real and his concerns that everyone be comfortable were handled properly. Imagine if there was no security and people could have come and gone, that would have been scary. I had a great time, I can't wait for a reunion or something.
