India to hold defence exhibition
NEW DELHI, Oct 9: An exhibition of India's entire spectrum of land and naval
military systems opens here next week in a bid to bring together the military and
private sectors, the organisers said on Saturday.

The five-day meet starts on October 12 and will be attended by companies from 16
countries, including the United States, Britain, Italy, Israel, France, Russia, Sweden,
Malaysia and South Africa.

About 30 countries, including Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, are expected to send
official delegations.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), one of the organisers, said key exhibits
would include artillery, bridging systems, bullet proof clothing, anti-aircraft systems,
rocket launchers, small arms and ammunition and infantry combat vehicles.

The CII said in a statement that the exhibition "would also be an effective platform for
the Indian private sector to build linkages with possible export markets.

"It would provide a platform to build up business partnerships, both with foreign and
domestic partners."

Officials say the indigenous content of Indian military equipment would more than
double from the present 30 per cent by 2005 with private sector participation.

India, which conducted nuclear tests last year, has one of the biggest armies in the
world and produces a variety of military equipment.-AFP

However you juggle the numbers, the fact remains that the TDP holds the reins here. If they pull out, that will put the BJP at the mercy of the "wolves" (Chauthala, Sukh Ram, Paswan et al).

TDP's decision to have an adjustment with the BJP was based on a fear that, if they did not, the Congress would make massive gains in AP. Even befor ethe elections everything was pointing to the TDP and BJP being alligned. The TDP chose the alliance as a strategic measure to counter the Congress. NDA + NC(4) = 302
TDP(w 29) pulling our will not bring down the govt but with 2 more + the TDP 29 can. If they do it will be disaster for the TDP in AP since they will have to face the Congress, face anti-incumbency effect, and the fact that they forced another elections. I see the TDP supporting from the outside for the whole term. They will bide their time and any further alliance will based on how well they do and how well the congress does. If the congress remains strong and united in AP look to see the TDp and BJP maintaining their alliance.
