The five-day meet starts on October 12 and will be attended by companies from 16 countries, including the United States, Britain, Italy, Israel, France, Russia, Sweden, Malaysia and South Africa. About 30 countries, including Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, are expected to send official delegations. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), one of the organisers, said key exhibits would include artillery, bridging systems, bullet proof clothing, anti-aircraft systems, rocket launchers, small arms and ammunition and infantry combat vehicles. The CII said in a statement that the exhibition "would also be an effective platform for the Indian private sector to build linkages with possible export markets. "It would provide a platform to build up business partnerships, both with foreign and domestic partners." Officials say the indigenous content of Indian military equipment would more than double from the present 30 per cent by 2005 with private sector participation. India, which conducted nuclear tests last year, has one of the biggest armies in the world and produces a variety of military equipment.-AFP
