Countries aren't for or against human rights - only laws (or more generically: required or permitted practices) are. Countries change their laws. And my touchstone is this - if any body of oversight would use its authority to dilute the Bill of Rights, I want no part of it. World peace be damned if that is the price.

Excellent points. I don't want the United States to belong to any organization that would allow the likes of Iraq and China to vote on our own well-being. I think things like the Law of the Sea Treaty demonstrate the pitfalls of the United Nation ~ only a few countries have the technology to actually exploit minerals on the sea bed, but the majority of nations voted that the minerals belong to all. Well, of course, they would, wouldn't they? It's like letting poor people vote on who owns your money, it's stupid.
