There's really only one reason professional scam-stock touts despise short sellers. It's because in the case of fraudulent stock promotions such as GUMM, REFR, CCSI etc. where there is little or no chance of real economic benefit to the shareholders through an earnings stream - it is imperative that competition for that sucker's dollar (the sucker being the retail client who was just sold a bill of goods about the company) is cut to the minimum.

In real companies such as DELL, IBM, etc. etc. short positions are taken all the time for various reasons. No one really cares because the company's earnings will eventually take care of the stock price. Even investors and funds that may be long term bullish on an issue may decide to short or short against the box on occasion.

If I were touting a fraud like GUMM, I'd be bashing short-sellers left and right. If I worked hard to sell a worthless stock certificate to some poor sucker, why on Earth would I want to split the profit with a short-seller?
