You missed the point completely! The founding fathers were Pilgrims escaping religious persecution who had one agenda on their mind. That was to freely serve God, and Him only. That's the whole point of Thanksgiving.

The Mayflower Compact was necessary because the Pilgrims found themselves outside of the jurisdiction of the Virginia Company at whom they had aimed, and needed some form of self-government. This started the American tradition of self-government widely imitated through U.S. future history. Great idea that mere people can establish their own government. Sort of like "We the People ...."
