Matt,

An alternative might be the SPYDER sector securities.

I am not sure if they are shortable. They are market cap weighted and
rebalanced to reflect that, I believe.

Also, where did you get your research that it "will probably not be optionable"? Typically, a new security needs to be out for something like 60-90 days, and meet other minimum volume (liquidity) and size reqts before it can be optionable.
