Best argument I can make for hunting ( and I know it will fall on the deaf ears of the PETA types ) is what I saw with my own eyes. In the late 50's and early 60's Texas was going through a hell of a drought.
Back when I went to work in 62 the drill was you worked Sept and Oct with the wildlife biologist. Then Nov and Dec with law enforcement. Then Jan with the fisheries folks. I got assigned to the hill country
for law enforcement. Those dutchmen up there found out what a cash crop deer were and were trying to stockpile them. In a state like this, where 90%+ of the land is private owned the landowner controls the amount of game taken. Well they had deer out the wazoo going into that drought. While working with the wildlife biologist part of the deal was walking DEAD deer lines trying to get a handle on just how many had died. They counted as high as 160 DEAD deer per section ( 640 acres). all dead from starvations. Now I would like to ask the tree hugging, terrorist bunch from PETA which would have been best for Bambi a quick death or lingering pain for weeks while they starved.
Something has got to control the populations and hunting is the most effective, humane way.
