so, if I read this right, the 1st Motion Picture Unit fell under the command of Intelligence?

In 1945, Capt. Reagan was recommended for promotion
but because there was no major's vacancy in his unit at
the time, the request was not approved. On Apr. 1, 1953,
his commission in the Officers' Reserve Corps was
terminated as required by law and his military affiliation
apparently ended.

That link appears to show that Reagan entered as a member of the Officers' Reserve Corps (United States Army Cavalry Reserve) and ended his service in the same branch, not in Airforce Intelligence, even though a commendation letter about his work at the First Motion Picture Unit was written by an officer in Air Force Intelligence. There is no indication that the writer of the commendation was RR's personal commanding officer. Does it look different to you?

In fact, in Early Reagan, the name of the post commander at Fort Roach/Wacky is given as Paul Mantz, "a film stunt pilot... the only flying officer at the fort who qualified [you had to be able to fly planes - E] and so he was made commander."
