The so called trial they tried to trap Jesus into was a complete mis-trial from the beginning. They stated that they had "caught her in the very act" yet they did not bring the man. It is interesting that you noticed that but read the command of God it never intimated that JUST THE WOMAN was to die ! Those who brought the woman felt the same as you.. That God was too HARSH. Also the Jews had no power of death penalty. It was taken by their Roman Conquerors. If indeed they attempted to stone the woman they would have landed in Jail and likely killed themselves :-} Apart from that they didn't see the big deal about " sleeping around as you say.." It is possible that these men knew exactly how and where to catch the woman because they themselves had slept with her. Remember they were not interested in seeing God Law enforced They were busy trying to entrap Jesus Jut like you are busy trying to trap me :-} The death sentence is prescribed for Adultery, Murder, Homosexuality, etc. We are not called to judge which sin is worse. They are all bad enough to deserve the death sentence. We as individual are not called to carry out this sentence. The Government is. The Church is not called to put people to death. The Church is called to Preach the Gospel and do the works of reconciliation.
