Microsoft Considers 3G Investments
Microsoft is exploring the possibility of investing in 3G operators
worldwide, a company executive told the Telecom '99 show daily. 'We
can imagine taking a stake in some of the larger mobile operators
planning a global 3G presence,' said Georges Nahon, senior director of
Microsoft's Network Solutions Group in Paris.

Lucent wins AirGate PCS network contract

ATLANTA—AirGate PCS and Lucent Technologies Inc. announced a
three-year supply contract valued at up to $150 million calling for Lucent
to supply Code Division Multiple Access equipment for deployment
throughout AirGate's North Carolina and South Carolina footprint.

AirGate, an affiliate of Sprint PCS, plans to build out in the first quarter the
cities of Anderson, Spartanburg and Greenville in South Carolina, and
Asheville and Hickory in North Carolina.
