Scott,

I am sure that everyone else that has tried DM has already realized whats wrong with DM.

This is not the same DM that I saw demo'd in January. That version I liked from what I saw.

1) As soon as Carrie logged in to DM, I saw banner icons of her popular web sites. In the released DM I have to dig around through menus to get a boring small text list of my configured web sites.

2) This web site listing is non-intuitive. I at least should be able to click on the actual website text to open it instead of having to click on it and click open

3) The vast majority of site I tried to enter into DM did not work. I got soo frustrated (and this is coming from a relatively techie Internet type of guy) that I just gave up.

4) I was struggling to understand the purpose of the card designs when it looks like all I really needed were th MeCard definitions. Plus I couldnt get the Card-designs to do what I wanted - i.e. put text on the card that I wanted.

5) The Help text was way too basic and did a poor job of explaining things that I really wanted to know on how to use the product.

6) Everytime I made a change to my PUBLIC MeCard, I later realized that it kept an old copy of it in the search catalog. So I had 6 versions of my Public card. Bad news since a couple versions of my MeCard had a bit too much private info but now its stuck in public and I cant get it off.

7) The Home page after logging in seems to have its priorties wrong. Those web sites that I eventually would be able to configure should be right on the home page.

8) Trying to use DigitalMe through our company's SOCKS servers IS DEAD DEAD SLOW! Lets say you dread making that next click. dont know why the firewalls are killing the DM site.

9) Currently, other than what is suppose to be a great central repository for multiple web site access, there isnt much else to go to DM for. And, since that does not work great at all. I can get faster access to my websites by just clicking my bookmarks and loggin in.

10) Since DM is not integrated into the "MYREALBOX" service, and since no other "I have to check it" activities are happening on DM, then I have no reason to go there right now.

I really think that the DM service team was forced to release this product well before it was ready to be seen by the general public. They didn't correct some very easy to spot problems and limitations of the service (it only took me hours to find most things I mentioned above plus others).

There is no functions that attract me into the site several times a day - unlike Silicon Investor where I want to get the latest postings, or my freemail where I must check my email.

In my opinion, they have to add repetitive returning functions/features to DM in order to ensure the customer comes back frequently.

Thats why I havent gone back to DM in about a week.

Hi Scott,

"Hello ToySoldier,

> I hate to bring up the war, but, did you notice that ever since the
> Digital-Me official release a week ago, this board has quickly stop
> talking about it?

Yes ... I *did* notice this ... things have got really quiet. I'm curious (and from others here on the board) are you
using it every day now? If not, what is it missing to make it a "daily use" product for you?

I have a feeling that this is part of the issue ... but I would really like to hear from the folks on the thread ... Are
you using it daily? And if not, why?"

Really have not had time to play with it much. The culprit is the fact that the installation program I downloaded installed this thing on Explorer rather than in Communicator which is my default browser..

About the Digitalme Site itself, IMHO it really still feels like a demo. I was really expecting something more along the lines of ZCentral. Clear, intuitive layout...functions you want to use. The current version of the DM site feels beta.

" think that it's always quite interesting to talk about "what it could be" and then when the release occurs, we get
to see "what it is". I'm waiting and looking for the stream of press releases about the next steps ... to see the new features and partners. I have to say that I use ICQ daily ... I use ZCentral daily ... I'm not yet sure which features in this v1.0 of digitalme are "daily" types of features ... where is Whenever! ??"

Same here. When I have time I'll try to find out how to resolve the installation of DM on Netscape...

Regards

Victor

Hello Scott!

I use digitalme daily - mostly for the WebLogIn and Form Fill feature. I check to see who has sent me their card as well. I did manage to find some interesting Novellites searching digitalme :)

I would like to see these features:

1) Instant Messaging (coming soon I should think).
2) built-in email coordination with say MyRealBox.com (or any ISP I can configure).
3) Calendaring would be interesting especially if it links the Contacts feature with it.
4) Online Bookmarks/Favorites Folder (keep my bookmarks with my digitalme card of choice or each meCard has it's own bookmarks)
5) Personal Search feature (could use my bookmarks for keywords and subjects or merely allowing me to search my bookmarks for new information. In reverse, allow me to import searches into a bookmarks file).
6) Allow my Contacts to populate an addressbook (and vice versa).

While I'm thinking here...could it be possible to transform the meBusiness cards of a group of people; gather them together to form a community without actually hosting everyone's digitalme identity?

In short, can I create a community based on people's meCards as a form of membership?

From what I understand, you join virtual communities where you entire digitalme information is stored. That's great for your "home base" so to speak. I'm wondering if a "private" community could "issue" or have you create a specific meCard to join in - say for some hobby or professional organization?

Ok, time to get back to work :)
