We are our own worst enemies. I agree with the comments concerning Greenspan and his going beyond the scope of his charter. However, aside from two 25 point increases he hasn't done much beyond opening his big mouth. The problem is not so much Greenspan as the investing public that hangs on his every word. Why do we wait with baited breath for his next speech? Why do we react to every little burp from Greenspan? Why do we give Greenspan more than his fair share of air time? Consider CNBC with their ridiculous "briefcase indicator", etc. etc. It just never ends. He opens his mouth and we overreact. We have idolized him. We have crowned him the wealth god who exudes wisdom and compassion for his lowly subjects. It's ridiculous. But we are more to blame than Greenspan. I vote we ignore him. In fact wouldn't it be nice if the next time he gave us his patronizing "tulip bulb" lecture the market went up a couple of hundred of points?
