G*USA Coverage Map revised and improved!globalstarusa.com It's funny, I was just about to post the following open letter, and found they'd already fixed several of my pet complaints: OPEN LETTER TO GLOBALSTAR USA Dear Globalstar USA As a shareholder of Globalstar Telecommunications Ltd (GSTRF) since its IPO, you can imagine my pleasure at the recent announcement that Air Touch Satellite Services would start doing business as Globalstar USA. I hope it's correct to construe that announcement as a signal of Airtouch's confidence in the Globalstar brand, and as a signal to other US wireless carriers that Globalstar service will be available to all on attractive wholesale terms--even to those which may compete with Airtouch in retail markets. I eagerly visited your new website at www.gobalstarusa.com and conducted my own informal "friendly user test" of the site. Frankly, in this time of web based consumer and investor research, your site needs some significant improvements. A few friendly criticisms follow: Distributors. Of the listed distributors, to which your site provides links, only GMPCS and O'Gara mention Globalstar. Two others have pages "under construction" and I was very disappointed that Airtouch's own retail arm has no promotional references to Globalstar, or hints as to it's near term plans to unveil a Globalstar product. Coverage Map. While it was nice to (finally) see such a map, I have problems with both the format and specific details of the map on your site. First, the coverage areas you show are not consistent with other Globalstar materials regarding the G* rollout: for example, you show Peru instead of Argentina as one of the initial S. American Gateways, and Eastern Australia, which is not consistent with previous Globalstar forecasts or with information available from TESAM and Vodafone web sites. More seriously, your year end 2000 coverage forecast, is very disapointing and completely contrary to all prior forecasts of Globalstar managment, in that your map shows no national coverage for Brazil, Australia and Russia by that time, and no coverage of Malaysia, Indonesia, large parts of Africa and the North Atlantic. In addition your map lacks important details; an example of much better coverage maps can be found at Iridium's web site, which provides continent by continent exactly which countries are covered by satellite service and where terrestrial roaming is available. Your map is deficient also by not providing any indication of regions supporting terrestrial roaming (a feature for which I would expect Globalstar to have a dramatic competitive advantage over Iridium.) Finally, your map implies coverage of areas where I strongly suspect it will not be available for political or regulatory reasons (e.g. Cuba, Iraq and Libya.) Global attitude. It's surprising that a product named Globalstar is presented on the Web in such a US-centric way. I would like to see links to all G* sites world wide and options for non-English speaker visitors, for example. Best wishes A Globastar shareholder
