He signed the damn thing two years ago. There's been ample time to debate it. As for the timing, thank bubba for that. It was entirely his initiative that brought it up now. He just wasn't expecting the Repubs to be ready for him.

they rejected the treaty without significant debate or reflection
and on a straight party ticket vote!

The old I'm not partisan, your the partisan B.S.

LIKE, YOU KNOW, WHO CARES

So, I hear other nation?s are a little pissed off with the United States over our failure to ratify the test ban treaty. Well, (and let me phrase this in my best diplomatic language) piss on them. Our security comes first. The security of the rest of the world comes second. Neither India, Pakistan nor North Korea have ratified the treaty. India and Pakistan have nukes. So, probably, does North Korea. Let the nations of the world bitch at them for a while.

CLINTON?S HOT TOO!

Clinton says the Republicans are now to blame for what he calls a "much more dangerous world." He says the Republicans put U.S. Security at risk.

What amazing gall! This is the president who went against the word of his military advisors and against the advice of the pentagon and enabled the transfer of valuable satellite and missile technology to communist china? Isn?t this the same president who made a deal with Korea; we would build some nuclear reactors for them if they would promise not to use them for nuclear weapons? That didn?t work so well, did it? If --- and it?s a big-time if, the rejection of the test ban treaty made the world a less safe place, it is nothing compared to what Clinton?s dishonesty has done. Give it a rest, you liar.

UNVERIFIABLE!

That?s the key, folks. The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was wholly and completely unverifiable! This means that there is no realistic way for the United States to make any determination as to whether or not the other nations were abiding by it! Now we are a somewhat open society. We have a press corps in the U.S. that would blow the whistle on an American violation of the treaty in a heartbeat! WE would abide by the treaty! By what about the other nations? What about Iraq? What about Pakistan? What about North Korea? In case you haven?t noticed, freedom of the press isn?t exactly strong in those nations. So, who is going to blow the whistle if they start testing nukes?

It?s so simple. The treaty ties our hands --- and leaves the rogue nations of this world pretty much free to do what they want. And this is supposed to be a good deal for the United States?

SURPRISE--A BROKEN PROMISE

After promising Bill Clinton that they wouldn't conduct any more tests on the Taepo Dong II missile, North Korea has not suspended missile development. We know that we could trust them on a test ban treaty though, couldn?t we?
