** Caution is the Word **

The S&P 100 (OEX-651.75) declined by 6 percent this week. Going through all expirations since 1976, this would be the SECOND largest expiration week loss. First is October 1987 (-9.6). Third is October 1978 (-5.7%). The week after 1987's October expiration, the market lost another 11.1%. The week after 1978 October expiration, the OEX dropped another 3.3%.

And just for laughs:

** The Internets **

I believe that the internets will lead the technology sector down in the coming week. I see the biotechnology scenario coming into to play here. After a parabolic rise like the internets had this spring, there was a severe correction that bottomed in early August for the nets and technology in general. I believe those lows will at least be tested again. And I see the reasonable possibility that the market will, as a result, question the valuation of this sector and of technology in general in an environment of heightened inflationary expectations and potential slowing economic growth in the coming months. I believe the internets will then be prone to tax loss selling pressure. I do not think the sector is toast but is in a maturation phase. I see the good possibility of a new year bounce in the sector.

** What to Watch Tonight ** Watch the Asian markets slide off a bit but focus on the dollar. I expect we will continue to see a weak dollar which will put pressure on our futures going into the open.
