Still defending vantive? Is everything they do the right strategy?

The merger will be a disaster. You and I both thought SEBL/SCOPUS would fail, but Tom's aggressiveness and the power of the sebl organization overcame any stumbles.

PSFT is losing key people, how two dying companies will integrate may be irrelevant anyhow.

We'll see in a year, but I bet in CRM PSFT/VNTV has 1/2 of the market share in 12 months they do now.

I don't expect these guys to have all of the answers, but they *should* have a clear product vision that can be articulated now. Conway referenced Vantive's web architecture as a real strength. This is interesting considering that Vantive has only a token web offering. Beyond customer web self-service, they have nothing. Sure, Ivan/Version 9 is supposed to bring the Vantive suite to the web, but this is still 'the next release'! Vantive/PSFT could be another two years away from a respectable web offering for all we know.

Peoplesoft *must* complete this merger quickly and aggressively to have any hope of being a relevant player in CRM. Go back to Siebel's takeover of Scopus -- detailed press releases, product directions, and dates were set immediately. I haven't seen any signs of real urgency with this deal yet.
