If you have your money in a margin account, they can use your shares. I never bought on margin and didn't want my shares used so I changed it to a cash account. Shares can not be used in an IRA account. That is considered a cash account. If this doesn't make sense, then I suggest you ask your broker. Hope this helps. kc

Mark unless you've signed a margin agreement with your broker, you have a cash account.
