<<What does Orion do?>> L: Broadband Data Services From the Loral website - Loral has coordinated the data delivery resources of Loral Orion and CyberStar to take advantage of the synergy between the two operations and, at the same time, to expand into the emerging markets for data services. Today, Loral Orion is a leading provider of satellite-based, private network data services in Europe, where it is also a leading provider of Internet access via satellite for the rapidly growing market of Internet Service Providers (ISP), who offer Internet access to end users. Internationally, ISP's want high-bandwidth access to Internet addresses in the United States, where approximately 70 to 80 percent of the world's Internet content is located. Loral Orion has been very successful in providing this kind of high-volume international Internet access for ISP customers in Europe via Loral's Orion 1 satellite which offers trans-Atlantic coverage. Loral Orion is entering the Asia-Pacific and Latin America regions, where the world's fastest growth in Internet services is projected to occur in the next few years. In each region of the world, Loral Orion will bring the advantages of Internet-over-satellite, coupled with existing terrestrial delivery systems, to solve data bottleneck problems and to speed delivery of multimedia information. Already established in the VSAT-based (very small aperture terminal) corporate data network market, Loral Orion is expanding its business by offering value-added services such as digital voice, video, data, fax, advanced network solutions and Internet connectivity, in addition to broadband transmission capacity. Complementing Loral Orion's services, Loral introduced CyberStar in 1998 to provide business networking solutions using broadband communications. CyberStar delivers high-speed file transfer, distance learning, video and audio streaming, data formatting and ultimately, electronic commerce and other value-added services. These services are sent directly to the desk-top, enhancing corporate communications and permitting the distribution of multimedia and broadband data faster, less expensively and more reliably than alternative methods. Pilot programs are already underway in such markets as finance, entertainment, retail, corporate training, real estate and insurance.
