If Compaq bought the QCOM handset division, would they call it Compaqualcomm? Sounds like one of the American Indian tribes that lived in upstate New York. <gg>

AB and thread -

One thing has been bothering me about this battle between CDMA and GSM and that is why is there no CDMA network in Europe or to be more precise UK, France and GAS?

GSM has been allowed into the US and is expanding away but CDMA has not been allowed into Europe as best as I can understand it.

I did ask this on the stand last week and I was told that indeed Vodaphone had tried to get a CDMA network up in Britain but had been blocked by 'beaurocracy'.

OK G3 will ocme in due course but in the meantime I think we should be asking, and loudly at that, why GSM is being allowed to operate in the US while CDMA is not up and running in Europe.

Best regards,

L
