Do you really think we would have the nerve to send over some nukes? I think we would be very slow and deliberate in deciding our response to such an attack. . . first calling up other world leaders to try to immediately build an alliance.

And if there ever were a country that would respond well to economic sanctions it would be China. . . .I mean we buy what? 70 or 80 percent of everything they produce? Maybe more.

But any such war with China would be very hard on the markets. . . that much is for sure. Not liking this Jiang much. . . reminds me of a young Castro. . . but instead of having a little toy box, he has a Super Wal-Mart sized toy store. His ego is similarly sized. . .and his desire is to be the Chairman.

As you point out, China has a chip on its military shoulder . . but our interest there is now too vital to ignore. The world is a far more complicated place than it was in the 30's and 40's. The biggest threat to world peace by such a power comes when they have no fear of retribution.

William,

I am also concerned about the inevitability of China having absolute control of both sides of the Panama Canal. They will say who comes and who goes, and of course who will be allowed to do neither (read as anybody that gets in their way). Then consider the fact that even right now there is large scale uprising taking place in Columbia by communist rebels. Will we move to intervene? Well, if we were to do so, not having control of the Canal might make matters a little difficult. The Chinese I am sure would want to help their communist brethren in arms, don't you think? And for God's Sake, why in the world would we be so anxious to give them Long Beach? Geez are we stupid! (or rather, our administration has an agenda - does the movie Manchurian Candidate ring a bell?)

Just some depressing thoughts - and us without even a missile defense system - God help us.
