Please do tell us more about what Jack said. What did he think you said?

I see the fact that he got angry enough to call as a slightly positive sign that he cares about concepts like the truth and keeping his reputation clean.

It's also a sign that he hasn't skipped the country....

Right now these things are all we have to hang on to.
