According to a recent guest to CNBC's "Power Lunch" what you did was NOT foolish since by Dec the demand will outstrip supply. One will ether pay a premium for a machine or get less memory for a fair price.

Y2K may be misunderstood...
For big companies if you are about buying 500 or 1000
PC in one transaction then the purchase can be postponed
there is usually no urgent reason to buy now or in a couple of months. As far as the individual consumer is concerned the uncertainty bothers me , I actually want a new PC but
I am resisting , "my wife agrees" ... So if many people have similar consumer behavior then demand will be lower then expected for DELL and other suppliers too , however
they will have a very strong year 2000. Actually notice how
people jumped on the opportunity of buying DELL below $40.
At 37.5 it was a good catch.
