Pat...my dad has told me some of those say exact stories about 2 week late fills and such. They couldn't prove what prices they paid...so they never had to ante up money till they did!!!

I'd have to dig out the old statements to figure out what the settlement date was, but I don't know how it could have settled before they told me it had happened. Oh well. I do know that they never said anything about margin. If I had gotten confirms on a timely basis I would have cancelled some of the buys, or done some sells to stay at a normal level, and it wouldn't have been a problem.

Actually I had a pretty good idea which stocks I bought, but some stocks traded below my buy price on that crazy day without executing my orders. As for the confirms, I sure didn't wait for the paper to come in the mail. I called them about 5 times a day for the next two weeks, and as I said, as soon as I found I owned something, I sold it for a profit. Thus my account never reflected more than one security at a time in it.

Boy, thinking back about this sure makes me appreciate how much better things are today.
