I disagree with Akula's overall statement against boomers, but I do have an ecological disaster that they are responsible for.

Hydrocarbon emissions. What are they, around 40 times what they were in 1955? Can you say, "Lexus SUV's?"

Hmmm, why are 4 or the 10 hottest years on record (of 150 years) in the 1990's.

<My generation was looking into the teeth of nuclear holocaust.> You are attributing the fall of the Soviet Union to the actions of your generation. Communism has an inherent instability. The fall of communism was inevetable. Your generation could neither have stopped or facilitated it.

<Name these please and how the Boomers were responsible.> Three Mile Island was the result of lax safety measures put in place to protect profit primarily. You allowed clear cutting and strip mining to continue. I admit that you didn't start the practice, but you allowed it to continue. By elevating profit to the level of divine command you destroyed irreplaceable resources. You refused to research renewable energy resources because of the economic damage you thought would be inflicted. The Exxon Valdes oil spill. Bhophal, India. The Cuyahoga River (it caught fire three times.) Your generation allowed these things to happen. And all in the name of profit.

That is not even counting the humanitarian disasters you allowed to happen. How could your generation let people in Sudan and Ethiopia starve at the same time the government was paying its farmers not to produce food? Did you know that 40,000 people starve to death each day while dieting equipment is a multibillion dollar industry here? Rmember that a culture that allows genocide to occur is as guilty as the perpetrators. Just recently, your generation refused to intervene in the easily avoidable disasters in Rwanda and Bosnia-Hertzegovina.

<I believe that the problem lies in your idealistic view point that the many problems facing this country must be solved over night or the generation in power is responsible for all the ills of past generations.> I realize that injustice exists in the world and that you all are not responsible fpor it. However, I ask again - What have you really done to help?
