Do you know where the Acer plant is located that makes the Aptivas
Most of that production is in Malaysia I think, some in Taiwan and some now in mainland China. Some in the US also, mostly assembly.

just wondering if it is outside the U.S. that it would be less expensive to make in Nashville.
Local assembly of finished components can be done economically in the US but base fabrication is MUCH less expensive outside of the US. I don't think DELL does much base level fabrication of any type in the US, they mostly work with subassemblies.

Can anyone beat Dell's production costs?
In the volume consumer business, lots of people beat DELL's production costs. This is a segment where batch production with lot buys pays off big time. Think Sony...

That is one of the reasons that DELL has not gone into that business before - the BTO model and JIT planning just don't add much value and in many cases are a disadvantage.

taiwan.....they seem to be able to beat nashville labor costs...believe dell signed an oem agreement with acer to produce low end machines for dell....
