WTC,
Thanks for your responses. Regarding Pronto, I'll listen to the entire broadcast again and take notes this time. Maybe I got something wrong about the "entertainment" arm. But I think I heard correctly. SBC appears to be very serious about competing with AT&T head to head for all offerings. Including TV and Long Distance.

Interesting tidbit re SBC. I thought there was fiber wire outside my condo that had not been brought into the box. Yesterday, I noticed that the cable was brought in and looked at it. There is a new junction installed inside but the mass of wires are COPPER that seem no different than the old ones! Looks like SBC didn't choose to spend the money to bring fiber to the last few hundred feet.

Unbundled platform plugs in

Access One ordering UNE-P from BellSouth

TIM MCELLIGOTT

Access One Communications will use the CLECware operations support system
gateway from Mantiss to electronically provision unbundled network element
platform orders with BellSouth.

Florida-based Access One is migrating from a resale competitive local exchange
carrier (CLEC) to a virtual local service network, by taking advantage of UNE-P
benefits

With UNE-P, CLECs can lease unbundled elements, such as local loops and
switch ports, from the incumbent LEC (ILEC). The ILEC rebundles the elements
and allows CLECs to offer switched voice services.

Mantiss has more than 20 CLEC customers using its gateway, but Access One
is the first in the BellSouth region to use it for UNE-P. Access One now can do
pre-ordering activities electronically. These activities include address validation,
telephone number and due date negotiation and accessing customer service
records when placing orders for ported numbers, unbundled loops and local retail
service.

Converting to UNE-P will give Access One a profit margin on its 55,000 lines
comparable to competitive carriers who own their own facilities.
