I just saw the CEO of Morgan Stanly Dean Witter on CNBC and he said that as of tomorrow people can use their new on-line brokerage that will re-name their Discover brokerage to Morgan Stanly and that on-line trades will cost $29.95. Ron Insana asked what will happen to their Discover customers who have been making trades at $14.95 a trade. The CEO said that they will be grandfathered in at the same $14.95 per trade rate until March 2000. Asked whether those users will bolt to other OLB like Ameritrade or E-Trade he said he thought they'd stay for Morgan Stanly's research and other products! Yeah, Right! Those customers will bolt and E-Trade will be the winner in my opinion. He must be crazy if he thinks those using the Discover Brokerage will be willing to pay $15.00 a trade more than they have been paying.
