Rande, nice idea, but don't you think the small caps are due their day? Seems like everyone has been saying that for a while, but the same was said about oil and gold and they eventually had their day.

I prefer to look at what everyone hates right now, because eventually people will move money towards them. An example would be the healthcare field. A beaten down and hated sector for a while is finally getting it's turn to make moves to the upside.

The S&P is almost turning into "daytraders heaven" with all the volatile swings.

Agree. Index funds are pushing S&P 500 performance above norm. But only if you are also in the hot sectors, otherwise you could get under-performance above norm. Sector analysis is one of the main strengths of you and this thread, so charge ahead!! I've also noticed that over past few years the large caps lead in recovery after major market sell-offs

Only general exception I see is small - cap tax loss selling. This year, Y2K worries on top of normal tax selling should lead to some great plays.
