Mysterious, and unsettling.

OK, then, I found a place that not only sells firewood, they actually HAVE firewood. The place that I found before, $155/cord delivered and dumped, doesn't actually HAVE any to sell. They will take my order and deliver it as soon as they get some. So the place that HAS wood sells it for $191/cord delivered, or $176/cord if I pick it up. It sounds like a no-brainer to have them deliver it, $15! But then I'll have to wait until November. I think I could carry at least 1/4 cord in Rover, and make 4 trips, at least I'll know I've got it. Having never had a fireplace, I have no idea how long a cord will last. I want it in case Y2K actually does cause a power outage. I thought about buying a generator, but I have zero interest in storing enough gasoline to power one for more than a few hours, so what's the point? They burn about a gallon an hour, or less, depending on the load, and I just don't think it's safe to store a lot of gasoline around the house. We do have an oil furnace and waterheater, so we have oil, wonder if there are oil-powered generators? Still don't really feel like doing it, but having wood for the fireplace seems like a smart thing to do, at least we'd be warm, and could cook.

Also ordered 10 cubic yards of topsoil, to be delivered tomorrow, and dumped in the driveway. The slope in the backyard around the big maple tree close to the patio is very, very eroded, and the tree roots are exposed. I have no idea whether 10 cubic yards will be enough, we'll see. Now I need to find jute landscape cloth.
