WS: to be honest, I just find a lot of Seattleites a little full of themselves. In fact, it is almost endearing. After all, I grew up there when pretty much the only thing the place had going for it was the Great Outdoors. Not that that didn't make for great skiing at Chrystal and great backpacking in the Cascades. And of course there was Boeing, which was certainly some kind of dubious distinction, given the 'Last Lights Out' billboard and all that.

So then this nice enough corner of the country started to get full of it, what with Nordstroms, Microsoft, Starbucks and now the Internet.

Living down here as I do, folks accept the fact that it's an important center. So there is no need to crow about it further.

I just think that Seattle should also get to that place too. It is just a given, something that is acknowledged and accepted and therefore not really needed to be discussed....

ps: I can't wait for New Years! A cool band at the Indianola Clubhouse! My sister is organizing it. And she also is due with baby anytime now. Besides growing up in Laurelhurst, as I did, we spent summers at Indianola. For decades now, actually. So here I will be celebrating the New Millenium at my fave place with my fave folks.

And wearing an SI t-shirt to boot!

Or are these jokes? I am completely losing track...

You're not alone. I've been surprised by the what was coming across as hostility, but I figured I was just misreading another one of the private jokes that sometimes crop up here -- occasionally as the expense of those of us on in the "club".

White Shoes this is a recap for you on the recent events on the Days of GNET Long Thread that led up to people bad mouthing Seattle.....you see I applied for the job of Marketing Director for GNET but they hired this guy named Mike Quigley instead. He is some radical type from Berkeley.
Well I caught him lying to us and now my defenders are supporting me...I hope this clears things up for you.
