> News releases like this are sickening

They are great indications the gold mining business is getting much more efficient. Cash costs have been lowered substantially over the last few years, and the largest miners with the largest capital investments are getting the largest possible return on these assets. When you have to spend $US500M+ to develop a mine, it better have 10-20 million ounces of reserves and produce 1-2 million ounces per year.

This isn't a pick and shovel business anymore, heap leaching and SX/EW have doubled gold production in the last 20 years. The #5 and #6 gold producers are copper companies - Freeport and Rio Tinto. Freeport just reported 2.25 million ounces of gold production for 9 months versus 1.75 last year - an extra 500,000 ounces !!

One can't live with the fond memories of mining days past, one has to deal with the new reality of gold mining.

<<News releases like this are sickening. They are tantamount to one of the oil producers making an announcement that they are increasing production, at the moment that the price of oil began to recover from there low prices earlier this year.>>

Thank the Lord I'm so busy with my new enterprises that I had not a moment to drive the few miles to downtown Denver!
I'm not, in the norm., drawn to violence but wonder if I would have had the strength to stop myself. This is far worse than being held up at gun point or robbed in your home! Those theives can be easily seen & legally shot. If one is not so inclined to protect themselves, there are police & jails to assist in their protecton.

Here there is no law & near no one (other than GATA) that even cares about this theft.
