Jon Koplik: Yep, I assume it was a "demonstration" version of the phone! I will however, inquiry with my sources to the actual capabilities and why, if any, it would be much smaller.

I agree, and am sure too, they will try and reduce the size of the Globalstar phone too! However there may be design constraints due to power requirements, but that is not to say that as time goes by new solutions wont be found.

Still though, I am not convinced of the business case for these systems. The idea, as it first appealed with Iridium some 10 years ago (yes as far back as that), is excellent -but in someway it has been superceded by developments in the terrestrial mobile's market and technological advances. This could be a long debate, but suffice to say that there will be a market..it is just a question of how big it will be and here you, GSTRF management and me may all be widely (or wildly!) apart.
