2 Questions for thread. Has anyone here used a 2 period ROC.. I use 21 period ROC with a 18 period derivative (MA of the 21 period ROC) but now I'm hearing of a 3 period RSI of a 1 period ROC. Is there an advantage in using an RSI of the ROC rather than just the moving average derivative? Why is 1 period ROC better? The breakout through 30 or even above 20 after the first half hour or hour and heading up would provide a buy signal either way and a better buy signal when the ROC crosses above its MA line would be enough I would think.

I've also used 3 ROC's 14 day(with 8 day MA), 30 day ROC (20 day derivative) and 45 day ROC (30 day MA derivative) to see if I can spot a trend reversal in any of them.. (i.e. head & shoulders, double or triple top etc). Always looking for trend changes as early as possible.

I'm looking for an indicator that I'm told this works well with stocks like PXCM, INFA etc.

My second question is about an indicator called the Mass Index I'm interested because as a user of various assortment of ADX, they say this is more sensitive and the DMI the ADX, does tend to move sluggishly at times. The three step equation is in November' Stocks & Commodities Magazine.

I rarely change indicators that work but any indicator that claims to detect a new trend early usually perks my interest. Especially since they have a chart where the Mass Index did signal a trend change more quickly. (but this was a daily chart).

What I do to compensate for a sluggish ADX (which really doesn't signal the direction of the trend) is to use a 10 day MA, of the ratio of +DI to -DI (DMI and its derivative which is its 10 day MA).. Then I use a volume oscillator (10 day MA divided by 25 day MA)..as with all indicators I also use a 10 day derivative of the volume oscillator (MFI, OBV, Price Oscillator).

These are all end of day charts and daily data..

Also I use the Money Flow Index with ADX, +DI and -DI and this author speaks of the Mass Index with the Money Flow Index. Is this all moot since I'm usually looking at a 5-10 minute chart and use 20 period exponential moving average, 14 period ADX with and OBV and/or MFI for confirmation. Also have daily or 45 minute chart to double check. And my trades are usually 1-4 days. (real time intraday)
