tejek, I suspect that lead will prove to be ephemeral, if it exists for a week I will be surprised.

Even a 17MHZ lead is good....AMD needs the 750 very shortly.

Ted: <<This is crazy...we are talking about a 33 MHz lead in the very short term.>>

Why Athlon 750 needs to be out ASAP:

1. Athlon 750 is the most clear and loudest message to Wall Street and shareholders that A NEW AMD IS REBORN WITH ITS LEADERSHIP IN PERFORMANCE AND MHZ UNCHALLENGED.

Good PR is invaluable to AMD and its stock price.

2. Holding the highest speed crown is the best deterrent for any possibile Intel irrational coppermine pricing, therefore, providing shields for mainstream Athlon's ASP.

Maintaining the megahertz lead IS about marketing. AMD has still some way to go in convincing all the consumers out there that they should buy Athlons. If AMD can announce the 750 shortly after Intel's 733 then the headlines will be

"AMD once again beat Intel to the post and retain the title of fastest processor in the world"

The alternatives are headlines that read

"AMD's moment of glory is over as Intel regain the title..."

This is not about a mere 13 megahertz. It is about a monumental amount of free publicity for whoever plays the trump card at this stage.
