Hi Yougang Xiao; I agree that an Athlon 750 would probably be good for the stock price, but I'm not sure it would be good for AMD as a business.

I guess I made my investment in AMD for a pretty long term. So supporting the box makers is more important to me than keeping that crown.

If AMD didn't have enough 750s, all they would do is cause people to wait for the faster machine (like I am now). So from a marketing stand point, it makes sense for them to wait, perhaps...

If they do announce it, I hope they have lots of them, cause it ought to sell well. But I have to agree that AMD has more trouble than Intel launching products this close to the end of the year. Of course I would like for them to have quantities, and to announce it.

RE <<<1. Athlon 750 is the most clear and loudest message to Wall Street and shareholders that A NEW AMD IS REBORN WITH ITS LEADERSHIP IN PERFORMANCE AND MHZ UNCHALLENGED.>>

That message already was given out in June....Wall Street doesn't seem to enjoy repeats anymore than I do. The typical Wall St attitude: "So what! What have you done for me lately?"

RE <<Good PR is invaluable to AMD and its stock price.>>

HOW MANY POINTS HAS THE AMD STOCK GONE UP SINCE ANNOOUNCING THE FASTEST CPU IN JUNE?!! NADA!! That's almost 5 months. If that doesn't tell us something, I don't know what does.

I would give up the fastest chip crown for the rest of this quarter in trade for a breakeven Q4 and for still another 3 mos. to have a profit in Q1, 2000. If that were to happen, I guarantee a 5 pt increase in the stock by the end of Q4 and a stock price approaching 30 by the end of Q1, 2000.

And that would happen whether there is a 750 Athlon or not.

RE <<<2. Holding the highest speed crown is the best deterrent for any possibile Intel irrational coppermine pricing, therefore, providing shields for mainstream Athlon's ASP.>>>

The JUNE intro of the Athlon was the best deterrent to the high pricing of the cumine....that stands whether the 750 Athlon whether comes out this month or December.

Whether anyone believes it or not, the Athlon caught intc off guard.......and since then they have been scrambling.

AND DUE TO BAD LUCK, THEY HAVE MADE ONE MISTAKE AFTER ANOTHER. AND I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE CUMINE LAUNCH DOES NOT GO WELL. I SUSPECT IT HAS BEEN RUSHED BADLY AND PROBLEMS WILL BE INEVITABLE.

I have read most of the current posts and realize that I am in the minority on this issue. Nonetheless I believe, Yo Xi, that this thread got used to having the fastest cpu and liked throwing that fact into the faces of the intc longs. Even so if AMD loses the crown for a couple of months nothing changes for AMD.

I am impressed that this small company with minimal resources has managed to turn the tables on a huge competitor....and to actually have executed the launch of the Athlon well is amazing. I have agreed with their marketing strategy to date...it has been professional and understated. And I think so does the Street....note the recent Bank of America upgrade.

NOW I THINK ITS TIME FOR AMD TO START MAKING THE DINERO!!! AND I BET THE STREET WILL AGREE WITH THAT TOO!! JMHO
