tejek, re:<give me a breakeven 4th rather than a speed crown> (paraphrasing)

I agree. The CuMine 733 is limited by 3 things
1. Intel's bin split and yields. If overall yields are bad, customers will demand many more $600 parts than $1000 parts, even if bin split is good. If bin-split is not abnormally good, there will be few 733's.

2. Its limited by the number of i840 motherboards, probably very limited

3. Its limited by cost and availability of RDRAM. SDRAM prices are dropping back to normal. Fry's this weekend was selling 32M EDO for $29, so SDRAM cannot be far behind. I haven't seen any RIMM pricing yet.

4. Its limited by fear of RDRAM technology and i840 chipset integrity.

I agree that the goal for AMD should be maximizing 4th quarter revenues. But if CuMine 733 quantities are as low as I expect them to be, AMD can introduce the 750 without reducing demand for the 550 to 700 chips. Here's how -- rather than dropping prices on the 700 MHz and lower chips, set the 750's price ABOVE the 700's at $1,000. That's what Intel will be extracting for the 733, according to Michael Da Kota. And it will increase revenues rather than reduce them.

Tejerk - Re: 'HOW MANY POINTS HAS THE AMD STOCK GONE UP SINCE ANNOOUNCING THE FASTEST CPU IN JUNE?!! NADA!! That's almost 5 months. If that doesn't tell us something, I don't know what does."

Tsk. Tsk.

You sound a bit upset.
