Wait a minute, that contradicts what the last post said, that someone had in the meantime contacted the company and gotten a denial. If Cisco is in a quiet period as you're implying then how could that have happened?

Nice try at personalizing it, though.

It looks to me like the rumor was spreading just fine on its own without any help from CNBC. If you can document for me an example of a sequence a) stock price rising or holding steady, b) CNBC report of rumor airs and c) price of stock promptly breaks downward, that might be a different matter. But this was clearly not the case here.

It's funny, I'm reading another thread were the prevailing opinion is that CNBC has a hidden agenda to prop up the price of as many stocks as possible. Talk about not being able to win for losing.

One other point: CSCO does not live and die by the day to day fluctuations of its share price. Frankly, unless its your job to do so, neither should you.
