I read Alan Abelson every week because I find him entertaining but that is about it. Few have been so wrong for so long than Mr. Abelson. Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile but Mr. Abelson relies on yesterday's news to prop up his bearish views never once being ahead of the power curve with something original.

Abelson isn't the only one saying this. Fortune was saying it almost a year ago.

Don't shoot the messenger! Facts are facts!

On a similar note, there was a great article on Sunbeam's downfall under "Chainsaw" Al Dunlap in a recent Business Week. It's a great example of what can happen when the accounting tricks don't work anymore. I'll admit it's an extreme case that may not apply directly to IBM.

Better to be safe than sorry.
