CHENNAI: A. V. Thomas & Co Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs. 1.54 crores on a net sales of Rs. 77.98 crores for the half year ended September 30, 1999. For the corresponding period previously, the company reported a net profit of Rs. 3.53 crores on a net sales of Rs. 83.61 crores, according to a statement of unaudited financial results of the company.

The gross profit after interest but before depreciation and taxation was Rs. 2.81 crores (Rs. 5.67 crores), interest Rs. 1.50 crores (Rs. 1.40 crores), provision for taxation Rs. 96 lakhs (Rs. 1.90 crores) and depreciation Rs. 31 lakhs (Rs. 24 lakhs).

For the year ended March 31, 1999, the company reported a net profit of Rs. 4.41 crores on a net sales of Rs. 168.39 crores.
