I think he was speaking in a Zen Buddhist manner of thought. Perhaps fib ratios change in the space ship as well. A lot of concepts change once you eliminate the field of gravity, the lunar effect, and so on. Sort of like the way the light spectrum goes through a blue shift with respect to the way Einstein would think of it. Well, we can take a doctorate at Purdue or somewhere in Physics and get the government to pay for our work on it. On the side we can write a book on horsetrack or auto race betting.
