RE <<<How the heck is MS going to get mainstream software developers like Square, Konami, and Capcom (the people with multi-million dollar budgets devoted to each game alone) to develop for them?>>>

Money talks....you should know that.

RE << As Sony already proved, it's the software, stupid, which is why Playstation I is doing very well against the N64, even though the N64 has superior hardware specs.>>

Msft is the biggest software company in the world!

Your disclaimer not withstanding, every intc long sees this deal as a bad thing for AMD. Why maintain the pretense at all of an unbiased opinion.

Ten, "How the heck is MS going to get mainstream software developers like Square, Konami, and Capcom (the people with multi-million dollar budgets devoted to each game alone) to develop for them?" Ten. Solution Microskoff will borrow a page out of Intels play book...simply withold developmental information from the uncooperative. Before predicting sucess. Suggest you read the recent press reviews of Microsoft entering gaming. Also check out the Microsoft game station website on MSN network.

Actually I thought it was Microsoft that proved this, not Sony? The console manufacturers still have a hardware focus. The fact that they are still just producing fly em round, shoot em up games after so many years in the business illustrates to me that they are losing their direction. It is not just about better graphics any more.

The next leap in games technology will come from some little software companies that Microsoft will assimilate for the GameBox.

Tench,

I think the biggest signifigance of MS using the Athlon is the show of faith for the Athlon.. I don't think anyone expects the unit to be a success, but it does send an interesting message.
