The weekly cold storage and movement of Frozen Catfish Report will be released by the United States Department of Agriculture tomorrow morning at 8:30 am.

The Frozen Catfish Report (FCR) is the the broadest measure of fish activity in the United States economy. Annualized quarterly percent changes in FCR reflect the growth rate of total catfish output. The figures can be quite volatile from quarter to quarter. Inventory and net export swings in particular can produce significant volatility in the FCR. The final figure, which excludes inventories, can sometimes be helpful in identifying underlying catfish trends as inventories represent unsold tails and heads, and a large inventory increase will boost FCR but might be indicative of weakness rather than strength. The broad components of FCR are: consumption, investment, net exports, government purchases, and inventories. Catfish consumption is by far the largest component.

The bond market often reacts to FCR, though the price moves are typically small, as much of the FCR data is easily predicted using monthly economic releases such as personal consumption, shipments, spending, trade, and inventories.

Just a word to the wise.....<g>
