QUESTION FOR ANYONE:

Did I read on this thread that Compaq computers are notorious for not being able to maintain their connection to the internet?

Yes, Mr. Mark, I had to give up my Win95 and my beloved Netscape for Win98, IE5 (yukky), and Microsoft Office 2000.

So I have had this Pentium III 550, 96MB, 13.5 gig hard drive Compaq Prosignia 330 for a month. Special built business model from Direct Plus, not from a store. For 2.5 weeks the internet remained connected for hours as I use it all day reading stock boards and auctions. Now the last 1.5 weeks, the internet connection just disappears, fades away, no matter what I am doing, reading or typing. And then I have to reconnect and it disappears 10-15 minutes later again.

I am now on the old faithful laptop, been here for an hour and the internet connection has not faded away. So it is Compaq's fault, right? They say it is my ISP. I don't think so.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Carolyn
